Telluride Colorado Hotels Guide
Telluride
hotels offer their guests much more than skiing. From the luxury
of a world-class resort and spa, to the rustic beauty of guest ranch or
lodge, Telluride hotels have accommodations to please everyone. Many visitors
seeking accommodations opt for inns, bed and breakfasts, or condominiums
as a great alternative to traditional lodging. Prices on hotels range greatly depending
on the type of accommodations and season. Peak season for Telluride coincides with
the opening of the ski area from late November to early April. Because Telluride
Colorado hosts many wonderful festivals during the summer and fall,
heavy visitation from mid-May to mid-October becomes the norm. If you’re looking
to visit during either of these times, be sure to book
early, as availability becomes limited.
Visiting Telluride Colorado
Long
before Telluride was a top skiing destination, mining drove the economy
of this small Colorado town. The first claim was staked in 1875, which proved
to be rich in zinc, lead, copper, iron, silver and gold. Originally named
Columbia, the town was forced to change its name to Telluride by the US
Post Office, who felt the town would be confused with Columbia, California.
Visitors hiking the woods of modern-day Telluride can still run across the
abandoned ruins of old mining camps. In the 1970’s, Telluride began to be
known for its “white gold” – snow. Skiers and snowboarders flood the town
in winter to enjoy Telluride’s great slopes. Winter visitors can also partake
in snowskating, snowbiking, and snowshoe tours. Kids will get a big kick
out of tubing, and Telluride boasts a great slope just for that purpose.
In summer, Telluride is home to numerous festivals and events. Fall brings
a mass of color to the region. No matter what season you decide to visit,
Telluride promises a fabulous vacation. |
